I pulled the lower unit off of an 86 force 115 today. The unit is very clean fresh water use only. It's housing is excellent. The oil in it appears very clean. I can turn the drive shaft by hand and then shift it and the unit shifts appropriately.
What I noticed is it takes a lot more effort to turn then say a merc or evinrude lower. I expect some waterpump resistance on the upper shaft but the prop shaft also takes some effort to turn by hand. Smooth but takes some force by hand. Is this normal for an old force crysler lower?
