NEED HELP! Boat idles great and runs great most of time. Fuel pump rebuilt. Carbs rebuilt. Checked all hoses. The boat wants to bog down and die when going from idle to WOT. It gets up to approx. 10 mph and dies. I rechecked float settings. Someone mentions new floats as I put the old ones back in when I rebuilt the carbs.
Thanks
Brad

Rebuild the fuel pump, cheap kit and simple to do, there might be a small pin hole in the diaphram.

Thanks for the input. The fuel pump was recently rebuilt. Could it be the float positions. The carbs were rebuilt as well. All fuel lines have been replaced as well. Thanks for any help. Great site!!!

If it's the floats set too low, running lean, hit the choke button to see if it picks up. If it doesn't, your floats could be too high, or you could have an electrical issue. Check your stator and switch boxes.

Re: 86 merc 150 xr2

I had a similar problem with a friends boat in that it would seem to run out of gas 15 sec after WOT. After messing with carbs, and a new fuel filter, it turned out to be a couple of pine needles stuck in the fuel line connector of the tank. It gave enough gas to run at medium throttle, but not full. We now use a screen funnel every time we transfer fuel.

Re: 86 merc 150 xr2

Thanks for the input. I recently have a new stator put on and the electrical checked out. I am not confident enough to tackle electrical issues myself. After getting the boat back, it ran great but, my mechanic pointed out that the motor remains constant through the middle 1/3, but picks up as you go to WOT. It has ran like that most of the summer until recently when this problem started. I'm leaning toward new floats and needles. I did pull carbs back off and a few seemed to be at inconsistent heights. which I know was not the case when I installed them. Thanks again.

What's a good online sight to buy floats and valve seat kits for my 86 merc. I have had no success with local shops. They all say Mercury is no longer producing these and therefore cannot get. Floats are 1395-9267 and valve kits is1395-7824.
Thanks
