86 mercury 85hp

I have an 86 merchant 85hp that does not run. Came on my project boat and I'm going to replace it. It either had a hole in the cylinder wall or head. What would be a fair price to sell as a parts motor. I figure the foot is worth $150

Post the serial number as they did not make a 85hp in 1986.....

S/N 8367979, i ran the numbers and it is titled as an 86... i couldn't find any year marking on the motor, just the S/N.

Thats a Australian serial number as the Cananda motors start with a 7xxxx, European starts with 9xxxx and Australia a 8xxx. Still if it a 850 hp 4 cylinder the last year 85hp was made was 1977....

It is an 850. What year did they start and are parts interchangeable throughout?
