87 115hp yamaha piston seizure

I just got a 115 in a cardboard box. # 1&4 pistons are badly damaged, it looks like 4 corner seizure cylinders are ok need to be cleened up but no real damage.I am going to check the water pump and impeller.Before I start to drop cash on this project I would like to know are these motors knowen for this? Are these motors junk or are they worthey? Is this a commen problem and do these motors have any commen problems that I should know about? Tell me all.

These are very dependable engines if you perform the servicing like your supose to. The damage was either caused by over heating or leaning of the fuel mixture. You will need to determine the cause and solve the problem or you will see it happen again. An engine of that age will need to be bored to get all the holes back straight again.
