Hello everyone.....I spun a prop the other day and had to troll in....

I'm in the process of ordering another prop for my 87 15hp evinrude outboard.....

I believe my WOT rpm's are 5500....I'm running 50:1....Does this sound right?....Is this the rpm that I should be getting or is there a cruising rpm for this motor?.....

I purchased a prop before and they said that its non returnable as soon as it hits the water....I put it on and was overrevving so in the garage it sits....Don't want to make that mistake again......Thanks Warren

5500 RPM's would be about right for WOT on your motor. Cruising speed would be up to you, as long as you are propped correctly. I don't know which prop you would get to achive the right RPM's, but a prop shop, with the right info on your boat type, weight, Ect, should be able to get you close....

My OMC manual for 1990 says operating range for the 15 is 5500 to 7000 RPM. Power is rated at 6250 RPM.

50:1 is correct ratio for fuel.

Hope that helps.

Hmmmm....So if enegron's manual says that 5500-7000 rpm's is OK for operating range what is overreving or redline?.....Does anyone know if the 90 is the same as my 87?????.....Thanks for the comebacks.....Warren

The manual for my 1984 15 HP says 5500 - 7000 RPM also. It is also rated at 6200 RPM. Enegron and I have you bracketed, so yours would be the same. Manual dosn't give a redline.

Well....I took my boat out last night for an R.P.M test run.....My WOT RPM's is around 66-6800.....Do you guy's think this is overrevving????....How long can I keep running at WOT without backing off???....I travel a long way in the ocean to get to the fishing grounds and its kind of hard to keep an eye on the tach with a tiller motor........Warren

You're still under 7000 rpm. I'm not sure you have a problem. maybe a lil high. How accurate is your tach?

If you have confidence in the tach, One thing you could do, is get a test wheel & tank test that engine. Thats probably where & how OMC measured to determine its specs.
