87 20hp johnson (no pee at idle) please help!!!!!!!

first the water stopped pumping all together then i did the following

i pulled the lu & checked the impeller and that looks good, i then blew air threw the pee to check for junk or clogs seems good. i did replce the water tube upper gromet cause that had seen better days.

i put it back together and nothing at idle, good stream at higher rpm

is that normal???????????

should their be a good stream at idle????????????

do i put in a water pump kit in for the heck of it and then hook up water to water tube to akle sure its not leaking at the upper gromet????????

ANY HELP WOULD BE AWSOME, WOULD LIKE TO GET GOIN FOR 4TH & GET SOME FISH!!!!!! THANKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The fact thast a impeller "looks good" doesn't mean that it is. Your explanation indicates a weak water pump assembly. I'd suggest that you install the complete water pump assembly if for no other reason to eliminate that item as being flawed. I think, from experience however, that the new pump will cure your problem.

On my '66 18hp last year I also had a weak exhaust spray, in reverse the spray would stop, in forward it was ok. So I puller the impeller and it looked ok... but I still changed the impeller and it was still the same. Then I changed the impeller housing and then it worked great at all speeds. And the housing looked fine to me but obviously it was not... That's the moral to this small story...

hey thanks for the help i replaced the water pump asm . it took care of it

and for everyone else its a simple job to do .

thats what makes these sights so great!!!!!!!!!!!
