I Recently Purchased An 87 Bayliner With A Recently (Earlier this Year) Rebuilt Engine. The Engine Ran Fine On The Ears For Several Minutes. Upon Taking It To The Lake For The First Time It Would Not Maintain Idle. The Longest It Idled Through The thirty Or So Minutes On The Lake Was Five Minutes. By Starting The Engine And Then Quickly Applying Full Throttle And Backing Off I Was Able To Run At Low No Wake Speed For A Few Minutes And Then The Engine Began Backfiring And Shut Off. The Engine Seemed To Run Fine At The Higher End Of The Throttle But I Did Not Run It Much At This Speed Just Enough To Get Back To The No Wake Zone As It Seemed The Only Way To Keep It Running. Some Pumping Of The Throttle Helped Avoid Shut Down At NO Wake Speed. Upon Reaching The Dock It Idled Longer Than Any OtherPeriod But Not More Than Five Minutes Or SO. Took The Boat Home Next Day Put The Ears On And It Starts First Try And Idled Fine No Issues Shifting To Gear Like I Experienced On The Lake. while Testing On The Lake It Smelled Like It Was Running Rich Heavy Smell Of Gasoline But I Did Not Smell That When Running On The Ears

I think he means the paragraph needs to be broken down into individual sentences.
The backfiring or poor running could be it's getting hot.
What's the timing set at?
Is the dist. advancing, the springs in the dist. rust free?
