87 60 HP vs 84 90 hp

I feel like my 87 60 HP mercury outboard is a little under powered when my boat has 4 adults in it. Its hard to pull a tube and impossible to pull a skier. I had an offer to swap for an 84 90 HP. straight across. I realize the blue book value is the same but I am leery. Why would somebody want to make this trade? the '84 90 is off a boat and for sale, mine runs great. Should I make the trade and if so (or not) what do I need to watch out for?

alternatively is there something else I can do to my motor to give it a little bit more power? new prop or a tune up or something?

What kind of 90 hp is it a mercury 6 cyl. What kind of boat is the 60 hp on and what is the maximum hp rating.

Boat is an 87 glassmaster bow rider rated up to 110. the 90 hp is a 84 merc 6 cyl

Otherwise are you happy with your motor? Maybe you could look into stepping down a pitch or two. Glass boats are a bit heavy 4 adults and all the extras may be asking more out of the motor. Stepping down a pitch or two will give you the bottom end your looking for at the expense of top end speed. Just My 2cts

A 60hp is barely over half the max HP rating, no wonder its a dog when fully loaded.

The 90 is much better match for a 110HP rated boat.

I agree have a mechanic check out the 90 hp make sure it is good and has all the controls and everything you need to install it on your boat. Also change the water pump right away

The 90 has twice the displacement the 60 has. The difference in your holeshot will be night and day. Provided the 90 is in good shape
