This is driving me nuts.. Origionally I had intermintent fire on #2 coil, so I replaced the coil, still had the same problem.. I then replaced the CDI with no better results.. I then finally noticed the the quick disconect seamed to have a short in it between the CDI & coil (the new coil didn't come with a lead wire & directions instructed to cut off the old lead & attach it to the new coil) so I replaced that wire wich I though fixed the problem because after that I was getting steady spark.. Now I have run into another problem dont know if it is a continuation of the original problem or I have created another..

The current problem I have is if I move the plate wich secures the CDI's & coils & and the grounds around the #2 cylinder fires intermintently, but once I get it situated to where it fires the #1 starts firing intermintenly & if I move the wires wich lead to the trigger it will react & start firing. The #1 also seams to have a weak spark the engine does react to removing the plug wire as much as the #2 & #3.. The CDI replaced fires the #1 & #2

I have removed the flywheel & inspected the stator & trigger, everything looks good, I have also took all the grounds & re-attached them with no luck.. All I can come up with now is either I have a bad trigger or & bad ground or maybe even a stator.. Is there a way one might run a test to verify if either is not working correctly?? No one in my area will work on force's (dont know why) so it's pretty much up to me to fix. It has gotten pretty expensive throwing parts at it & would like to find a different way of finding the problem, any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I have also changed all fuel lines, rebuilt the fuel pump & replaced the primer.

Re: 87 85hp Froce Elec problems

CDI electroncis faxed over a trouble shooting guide.. Stator OHM's between yellow & blue should read 680-800: my reading 698 good there
next test is to read the OHM's between wire sets coming from the trigger (I assume this means between the 2 wires for each cylinder)& should read aprox 50 ohms. Then in parenthesies is said (DVA-5v or more) ran OHM test #1 read 48ohms, #2 998ohms #3 48ohms. I'm assuiming the trigger is bad, but hate to buy another part until I know I ran the test correctly, anyone out there with any experience on this? And what is DVA?

I also ran what I assume is a good ground test.. I did a DCV test on the battery wich read 12.68 V.. So I then ran the test from the + battery cable wire to a ground on the block, read 12.68.. I then ran the probe to all the ground conections from the CDI & Coils, all read 12.68, so I think I have good grounds.

P.S. I ran compression test all 3 cylinders read 120psi.

DVA is a digital voltage adapter. I believe it is used so you can read high voltages with a digital volt meter. Here is an Iboats link. Hope it helps. DVA adapter

Well unfortunetly I have to replace the stator (2nd set of blue & yellow wires had no ohm reading) & the trigger. I see several on e-bay, is this a bad idea to buy used?? Also should I be getting the red stator for my motor? I have seen several post on this forum stating the black is junk
