My new prop came today!!!!!!!!! With excitment i went to the river........Only to find the same top speed and just a little difference in the speed of plane....Due to my recent post you guys helped me figure out my motor was way overpropped 87 bayliner capri 15.5 foot with a 87 85hp force.....It had a 12 5/8" 21pitch prop when i got it.... From the prop forum i figured due to the load and basically always pulling a tube i opted for the 13" 17 pitch prop instead of the 13" 19pitch that was stock..........So I guess there is more of a problem!!!! With both props I can only pull 31-32mph (GPS) with two adults and a six pack nothing else......I tried all the trim angles on the manual tilt motor for both props no difference except the hieght of the bow......The motor seems to run fine just no speed....... I dont have a tach right now waiting for my tiny tach.......So no WOT RPM......Changed plugs compression 122,125,119 Spark is good on all three cranking on starter all the plugs read mostly the same alil black fouling squeeze bulb is firm so i think it is not a fuel supply issue......Carb butterflies are opening totally but when they do is seems to bog down so i back off just a tad and perfect well for 31-32mph... No other problems I can see just slow and shouldnt the prop make atleast a couple mph differnce on WOT? Going tubing in the morning would like to try something while i wait for the ol lady to get up in the am any ideas?????

15 ft boat with an 85 should be doing more than 32mph.
Check the timing.Check the reeds, then the diaphram.
Yea your gonna need a tach.I have one that will fit.I'm interested in a trade. If you are.Contact me,J

I know im a jerk no tach and guess what no manual yet Is there a typical timing setting or a thread on how to set it? What is the best manual to get seloc clymer???? I only try to buy factory but I am having a hard time finding one at a reasonable price.........

J Wish i knew before i ordered the tiny tach I dont like the looks and wish i could have a Fariah that looks factory but this "cheap" BOAT (Break Out Another Thousand) is becoming quite the money pit.......Thanks thou

I have 16 foot bayliner center console with a 85 hp force and a 13x17 3 blade aluminum prop and my boat tops out between 28 and 32 mph with 1, 2 ,3 adults on board.. I think your speed is right in the ball park....

You should be running a 13 1/2 x 17P prop and you will get a higher speed at 5500 rpm. I friends father had a 15 bayliner bowrider with a 85 force and he had the wrong prop 13x19 he then went with a 13 1/2 x 17 I think the boat did a little under 40mph............................... I just called him. It does 38.7 Mph at 5500 rpm. And you are in luck if the spline is 15.... Bc I have a 13 1/2 x 17 stainless steel prop that I used 1 time. The prop diddnt work out for me. I also have a 13x19 used 1 time stainless steel as well. But heres a website. When you get your tach on use this site. I did and found that I needed a 13x18P and it hit the sweet spot so the website did me justice and was very pleased. Only wished I had found it sooner. Now im stuck with 2 new props i dont need. And I have a aluminum spare already.... If you do need 1 of my size props then send a pm with your name and number. I can send you out a prop. There just sitting in the closet picking up dust and should be cutting spinning water! http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/prop-selector/ Hope this helped! Going fishing now......:D
