Re: 87 bayliner project

I have a '85 Capri. Above the swim platform on the transom you should see the vin number embossed into the hull. If I remember right, you can tell the model from that number. I'd go look at mine, but its all wrapped up right now.

Find the number and post it. Sure we can figure out the model from the number.

Re: 87 bayliner project

why do you need the hull vin ? to register or check the regestry?

(i own a b-liner as well)

On my B-liner the model number (mine is a 1600 Cuddy Cabin) follows the HIN number molded in the transom on the outside. "xxxxxxxxxxxx - 1600CC". It is not actually part of the registration number, it just follows it.

Finished hooking up electrical on boat all systems go except trim.Just a thought the arrows point up.No I didnt mount it upside down. That must have been somebody else.Turned it over and fluid shot all over side of boat. How dumb can you feel and still work on your boat?

Re: 87 bayliner project

Nice work! Its going to be a fun boat.

I have what I think is the smallest Cuddy Cabin Bayliner made, the 1600 Cuddy. I know this is a small boat and the cuddy is small with low headroom, but one of the big problems I have is that the hatch in the cuddy is only 18" across, and its in such a low overhead area at the bow (maybe only 24" high there) that it takes me a minute or two to climb/wiggle my way through to get out on the bow deck to drop anchor. Then wiggle back through and head to the helm.

I was wondering what is the dimensions of your cuddy hatch, because I am keeping an eye out for a bayliner being parted out and thought a hatch from a larger model would be larger than the hatch on mine.

I want to add a new and larger hatch directly in front of the windshield so its easy to access. I won't have to climb to the very front of the cuddy to get out, it will be right there at the entrance to the cuddy.

The reason I don't just climb through the windshield is I'm adding a hard top and the windshield will not open. Take the link in my signature below to see the project/photos.

Thanks for any input you can give.

BTW, the cuddy folding door is thick and made from heavy pressboard with vinyl wood grain coating. I'm thinking of replacing it with tinted plexy or just removing it all together to save some weight. Any thoughts on this?

Re: 87 bayliner project

I have a 1986 - 19.5 cuddy and have the same size hatch as you I think
It measures 17" Inside and 19" Outside of frame
I can't get out my hatch either
But I'm 6'2" and weigh 250 so that may have a lot to do with it

I'm 5' 8" and 190 and I find it hard to climb through! I guess Bayliner used a standard size hatch across a bunch of models. Probably saves money. I looked at larger hatches, and there aren't many, and the price new is $400 and up.

Guess I'll have to make my own....

Re: 87 bayliner project

Looking good Proshade. Glad to see someone else getting one of those "old" B-liners back on the water. I do find it kinda cool going out on lake Oconee here in Ga and I'm the only boat that looks like this(85 B-liner 18.5'). I think I've seen on other B-liner there on Labor day weekend and it was much newer than ours.
It was pretty fun to crack open the 4-brl and dust off some of those new boats.
Could you post some bigger pics please so we can get a better look(and inspiration for some)? Just upload to photobucket and link. I like bigger pics and that way you don't have to resize them. If ya need help just ask.

The running mid 80s B-liners seem to an endangered species and as much as I like being unique I'd like to see some more members of the "cult"
