Re: 87 bayliner project
Nice work! Its going to be a fun boat.
I have what I think is the smallest Cuddy Cabin Bayliner made, the 1600 Cuddy. I know this is a small boat and the cuddy is small with low headroom, but one of the big problems I have is that the hatch in the cuddy is only 18" across, and its in such a low overhead area at the bow (maybe only 24" high there) that it takes me a minute or two to climb/wiggle my way through to get out on the bow deck to drop anchor. Then wiggle back through and head to the helm.
I was wondering what is the dimensions of your cuddy hatch, because I am keeping an eye out for a bayliner being parted out and thought a hatch from a larger model would be larger than the hatch on mine.
I want to add a new and larger hatch directly in front of the windshield so its easy to access. I won't have to climb to the very front of the cuddy to get out, it will be right there at the entrance to the cuddy.
The reason I don't just climb through the windshield is I'm adding a hard top and the windshield will not open. Take the link in my signature below to see the project/photos.
Thanks for any input you can give.
BTW, the cuddy folding door is thick and made from heavy pressboard with vinyl wood grain coating. I'm thinking of replacing it with tinted plexy or just removing it all together to save some weight. Any thoughts on this?
