My 175 blackmax was running pretty good to begin with but now I am amazed with it.
I replaced reed valves with Chris Carson glass reeds. Laped the reed blocks with fine sand paper a flat piece of glass and some oil. Took apart the carbs and soaked them in carb cleaner. blew out all the passages and hit em with the spray can carb cleaner. Put in new needle and seats along with gaskets.
Put it all back together. Did a link and sink per the merc manual. Set the timming up.
Had to work out a couple bugs with a leaky fuel line from the enricher valve. Even used new merc fuel lines and the hose split. Had to readjust the carb floats as some fuel was leaking by.
Once I got the bugs out everything is awsome. She runs great! smooth blast off on to pad, very responsive and a faster acceleration. I can not get over how smooth the power band is. The boat jumps onto plane quickly. At 45 MPH running I can punch it and it will set you back into your seat. Top speed is 60 MPH at 5800. Might get a bit more but I do not push more that 5800 RPM. its a ranger bass boat 370V by the way.
Much thax to all the folks here who helped me along the way. Martin answered alot of questions. Not seen him around in a while. Dose he still roam here?
thanks again!
