When I was filling up today I noticed the hiss/release of pressure, probably had 3-5 gals left in 16 gal tank, is the cap bad, charcola cannister? 2.0, 4 cyl. Thanks

That's a good sign that you do not have any leaks. You can flood and trash the carcoal filter if you try to squeeze in that extra 1/2 gallon of gas. Since it's an 87 I imagine the canister is garbage by now anyway. My car, suv and truck all hiss and give sounds of pressure when opened. The more empty the tank the larger the release.
