Just scored a 93 4.3 roller block for my rebuild. Was just wondering if I can use the stock distributor, it seems to mate up fine and spins with the cam...anyone ever try this? oh and Merry Christmas!!!

Yes. I sold my previously installed 1987 460 distributor to a guy with a 90 model OMG Kobra 460 that had the (obsolete/NLA) Spitfire ignition so he get it running to sell.

It worked fine!

The main problem he had was the elimination of the knock sensing circuit that wouldn't work with the old points dist. In that event, you would need to use a timing setting (slightly retarded) that did not cause "pinging".....in general, that would result in a little less than maximum possible power since you wouldn't be able to run the engine at the ragged edge of max advance.............

but the alternative is swapping the entire ignition system to an MSD, Delco, Mallory(ugh!) or other marine ignition alternative.....

Merry Christmas to all btw!!

I had a freind do this on a ford.

And the question is not a matter of mating up fine with the gears. Its the material that the dizzy gear is made of.

Double check what the gear is made of, if you run the wrong dizzy gear there will be trouble.
