I know I have to remove the 9 bolts, but, how do I disconnect the clutch or shaft? Is it up top or when you drop the lower unit? The picture shows an e clip up top and it shows a pin and nut on the lower unit. Where do I disconnect and how?

all you need to disconnect is your bolts and then you will see at the back of the lower leg, is a pin that you need to disconnect ... that is all ... see pic ...

nope, you should be able to get in there with a spanner, if the nut is not visible then put it either in forward gear or reverse and see if the nut becomes visible .... haven't worked on my motor in ages so I am rusty ......

Just another question. What do I torque the lower unit bolts to and how high do I tilt the engine up to remove the lower unit?

Ideally the motor should be tilted all the way down ..... i can\'t really give you a torque value, just not too tight so you snap them off, but tighten them in crossover, not one by one in a row ....

When I drop the lower unit, should it be in neutral or forward gear and should the engine be tilted up or all the down?

Sorry to say but the drive shaft will not clear in the fully down position. I put these fully up and the lower will slide out real easy. Care, these are heavy. Put the motor in forward gear to access the pin and split pin.
