I carried my suzuki to d & d marine in alabama. they got it to where it will idle for hours and it starts easily. it sounds as good or better than some merc and johnson motors they have sold at least thats what david said.
heres what we know... the COMPRESSION is good. the SPARK and plugs are good, the CARBS and fuel are beyond CLEAN! it starts and runs good but when you trim down it loads up some ( due to back pressure) and when it goes into gear if you dont give it gas it spins the prop just fine in forward and reverse. but if you give it gas it dies like you cut the key off! any suggestions ?

throttle position sensor? fuel pumps? computer? you tell me .

I look forward to some real constructive input here cause i know someone has the knowledge of whats going on here.:D

if you're computer shy call me 931-676 - 7570 and we'll discuss more details and options

when was the last time you serviced your fuel pumps?
does your primer ball pump up firm and stay firm?

Re: '87 DT 200 A problems

i only got the boat and motor in january. i havent serviced the fuel pumps..but i do have a manual . ( its with the boat still at the dealer.) as for the bulb it seems to function as it should. but do bad fuel pumps act like i described? i was thinking that it may be some sensor or wiring. just my opinion , but hey, what do i know ! LOL

Re: '87 DT 200 A problems

have you done
1) a compression test?
2) verified you are getting spark to all cylinders while in gear?
3) verified that the carbs were cleaned correctly? needle float adjustments, etc.
4) performed a proper link and synch?

87,88 and 89 was when suzuki was rapidly changing the ign and carbs.
does yours have a movable timer base?
once I get all my manuals out of storage and into my new man cave ill try to help more with suzuki questions.
I spent 6 years and several schools with a suzy dealer but out of memory I try not to say much.
but your issue sounds like plugged carbs not ign.

rodbolt your input is much appreciated ,as always! the carbs are spotless. they have been taken apart and cleaned 2 times in as many months.
cousinAbe your info is also needed and appreciated, what is a link and sync? carbs?

Re: '87 DT 200 A problems

did the TPS test bad or are they just changing it for a poke and a hope?

If you're gonna start changing parts, change the 22 year old fuel pump as a start and clean those carbs, specifically the main jets.

http://store.brownspoint.com/dt200/fig016-2008797.asp
take out parts 14,13,12 spray in carb clean to clear the main nozzle 11 and then clean up the #12 jets.

You may need to rebuild the carbs.

Re: '87 DT 200 A problems

according to the shop, the TPS wires were disconnected ,and when they plugged the wires in it still ran the same. so the think its bad, i'll suggest the pump thing for sure the next time we talk. do you replace the unit or rebuild fuel pumps?

TPS - they can bench test it to make sure it's in spec. maybe it's working but not getting 5v. did they test for voltage? did they test the TPS sweeps through the ohm range correctly?

Fuel pump can be rebuilt.
