I have to strip down the powerhead to get some cylinder work done. I have been unable to get the flywheel off. I have used a puller and even hit it underneath with a 10 lb sledge. Wont budge. Is there anything else holding it beside the large nut? I have the Clymer book but it is very vague. Cant find anything else about it online.

NEVER hit the flywheel especially with a sledge at all no need to. Just a guess you will need to really check the flywheel out really well make sure it's not cracked if it was mine I would replace it. If you have the 3 bolt puller put it on make sure it's level you want the bolts in at least 1/2 an inch and crank the main puller bolt as tight as you can then wack the main puller bolt with a carpenters hammer. Repeat until it comes off. If you are using the puller that hooks around the edge of the flywheel throw that in the corner with the 10# sledge.

I am using a three bolt puller. I was using 5/16 bolts but they were stripping right out. I re-tapped them and maybe try some heat tomorrow. I have no problem replacing the flywheel but I have to get the old one off.

Did you hit the puller bolt at all that is critical. You may need to be patient don't use an impact gun on the puller. Leave the nut on to prevent things from flying apart.

The guys are right on. After each time I hit the main tension bolt head on the puller, I also use my wrench to re-tighten the large center bolt. That way, each time you rap the head of the main stud, you've got max pressure on the flywheel. Eventually, it should come off.

Update guys.........I finally got it off. I used the puller and then had to put the benzo matic torch to it for about 5 minutes. Then...first rap with the hammer...it popped
off. Thanks for the help and encouragement. Now after trying to find someone to sleeve the cylinder/ get a new piston/ new gaskets etc. I am thinking of parting it out. I really dont want to put $800 in a 30 yr old motor.
