'87 Force 125- Speed and Fuel Gauges...

Hi,

I am new to the forum. Thought I would start off with these questions that I have not been able to answer from my manual.

1. How is the speed (not rpm) measured and displayed on the gauge. The reason I ask is because my RPM gauge works while my MPH gauge does not display any measurement.

2. My fuel gauge is not accurately recorded. Is this a gauge problem or an adjustment needed on the float switch?

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Speed is from water pressure,on the back of the boat is a pitot tube.It could be tilted up or the tip is broken off or it's gone or the hose is pinched or cut.
Fuel senders can be adjusted.Yours is 22 years old, think about replacing.

Jerry,

Ok. So, the speed would be detected with this device. I think I may be missing the device. Here is a picture of the transom of the boat. Beware, I have not finished the restoration yet. Which one of the right-side brackets would have been for the device?

The black bracket on the right side is where the pitot was. It is missing so you should buy a new unit which includes the mounting bracket. They are cheap @ $20 at West Marine. It connects to the black rubber line going up the right side.

The chrome bracket is for the swim step that attaches to the transom.

John
