Hello,

I drained the water from my Cobra outdrive (and THANK YOU for making the "do not remove" screw issue crystal clear!)

Now When the water drained out it appears very clear, but the smell was AWFUL..very sulfer smelling like rotten eggs. Anyone else encountered this or know what could be causing this?

Smell is warmed up seawater.
It gets hot and then goes stagnant.
Just flush with fresh water after each use.
Just flushing won't remove all the seawater unless you flush for 20min.
There are parts of the block that water circulates and doesn;t flush right out.

ok. Thank you

there was a slight smell of oil as well and whenever I started it or even turned it over in the slip there was a little bit of oil sheen that appeared but once it was running for a bit it stopped. I posted earlier that my shift would not engage both forward or reverse. The handle operates smoothly and the cable appears to be moving fine at the engine, but the definitive "clunk" sound when it goes into gear isn't there. I'm not sure if the little oil slick at start up would be related or not.

Anyone had a similar situation?

You should start another thread for the shifter.
On the bell housing on the drive is a shift lever called the bellcrank.Water get's in and corrosion starts around the end of the crank.
It needs to be taken apart and cleaned and greased.
When disasembling remember the turns of the screw for adjustments. Take pics and measure.
You really shouldn't have any oil sheen on the water. An outboard yes and I/O no.
Get the lower unit pressure tested? When filling the gearoil it HAS to be done from the side of the drive or it won't have enough oil and will burn up.
