87 OMC COBRA SHIFTS IN TO REVERSE

Ihave a 1987 fabuglas with a cobra outdrive, at the lake it ran fine all day then at a stop it went in to reverse fine but stumbled then stalled multi times, It was like it wasnt running right, but it would run fine in reverse no stumble, after a few starts and stall It finally full forward gunned up and took off. so we ran it back to the dock where it did the same thing twice before we could get it on the trailer. Still going in to reverse fine and not stumbling.<br />Please help new to boating and My first boat<br />Shayne

It is possible that your ESA module is not adjusted properly. <br /><br />This module is designed to interrupt the spark as you shift to make it easier to get out of gear.

would'nt that effect both the forward and reverse, or is it just one way or the other?

It does unless it is way out of adjustment. <br /><br />Worth taking a look at since it is so easy. Watch the actuation of the switches while you have a helper shift the boat.

Is there a way to test the esa switch? or a messurement for the setting of the esa switch?<br />Looked at it last night it move in and out when we shift the boat?
