ok so the other day at the lake the whole shifter on the boat broke cables are fine just it broke first question where can i get one, does it have to be the one for the boat cause i have seen some on ebay just want to check and see if it matters, the other queston is when it broke went to trim motor up to put on trailer an it wouldnt trim up so we touch a screw driver to the trim solenoid beside the motor an it came up what could cause this, is it the solenoid went bad at the same time?

Ayuh,.... Controllers are somewhat universal...
If the trim button is on the controller, I'd think that's Where the problem is...

Re: 87 omc need help

The trim wires go through the throttle handle itself and then go up to the trim switch...it's common for the grommet in the handle to pull out and then the wires can get pinched when the handle is moved back and forth...I actually was getting a shock when trimming and toching the metal part of the steering wheel...I took it apart and fixed the bare spot in the wiring and then glued the grommet back in place with trim adhesive...fine now...

if the throttle control came apart than it might be best to replace it with a new good quality one..the orignial OMC controls were good (mine still works fine 22 years old) but I don't know if they are still available...
