87 suzuki dt150, shifter/lower unit ?????

i used this motor all last year i hit a rock broke my lower unit, had it all rebuilt, ran it once or twice last year , and it shifted a little harder than usaul, then i winterized it took it out this year it shifted hard a few times then a little while later i twas making a rubbing noise, right before it engaged into drive, sounds like it was having a problem engaging,this only happened in forward gear any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks.

mechanic tells me it is definitely the desmonator switch or desmo , 70 dollars an hour ain't cheap, out of 2 different mechanics they both say the same thing. what do you think??
