87 vro pump

I just rebuilt the carbs on my 87 40hp, started it up and it ran great for about 5 mins then died and would not start again till I pumped the bulb. Now it will only run after the bulb is pumped and will run till the carb empty's out. Pump it again and it runs till the carb bowl is empty. I am guessing it is the vro pump, how do I know thats the case.

Make sure both fuel line connectors are firmly pushed on to their respective positions, hear them click. Next remove fuel out put hose from fuel pump, crank engine, check for fuel flow, if there is none check the fuel pump pulse hose for any damage or abrasion as this hos runs rather close to the starter. Be carefull of any plastic fittings on the fuel pump as they break easily,cut them off with an exacto knife.

If it it is the vro pump, you can get a fuel side only repair kit at Maxrules.com. I'd then disconnect the oil side of it and run 50:1 premix.
