My problem might be similar to the post zarx put up on the forum. When I give the engine full throttle is responds and starts to get the boat to plane out. Then it suddenly backs off, as if it was at half throttle. The primer bulb appears to stay hard while this is happening (or at least when i check it after the engine backs off). The tank to my vent isn't clogged, my fuel line and water separator are brand new as well as a new inline filter.

Question: Could my problem be clogged carbs and/or a bad fuel pump?

I always thought, and I am by no means an expert, that if the carbs needed cleaning the engine would run at WOT but have problems at idle speeds.

Also my stator, switchboxes, and trigger are all brand new.

Any help, comments, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have someone pump the bulb when it is doing this. If it get's your RPM'S back it is your fuel pump!
Dirty carbs sometime will idle but act up at WOT.
Also a link & sync may help. Tim

Tim-
Thanks for the comments. I will try having someone pump the bulb, while in full throttle, today and see if it works.
-andy

I tried having someone pump the bulb, while in full throttle, but after a second the engine still got bogged down and acted as if it was at half-throttle. So it probably isn't the fuel pump, right?

So I decided to take off the carbs and clean them and replace the gaskets. However, when loosening the nuts that secure the carbs to the intake manifold I ran into a problem. One of the bolts that comes out of the powerhead, the bolt that the nuts fastens to, just keeps spinning while i am loosening the nut and hence the nut stays right where it is. I even sprayed the nuts with some pb blaster to ensure this wouldn't happen. What can I do? Do those bolts screw out as well?

29 16 - 27037 STUD, CARBURETOR MOUNTING

It's a stud... You might have stripped the stud that mounts into the manifold...

It has threads on it, so you should be able to get it out by pulling outward when you turn it... But I don't know exactly which direction the threads are.... Probably normal clockwise to tighten counter to loosen...

As i've seen in another post. Is it dangerous to live and die by the Seloc manual? (because I do) Should I order a factory mercury manual? Where can i get one?
