Hi folks, just picked up a pretty little Starcraft 16 (69 model) with what I think is a 40 hp 1988 vro rude. I've never had vro before and have heard mixed talk about reliability so wondering if I should just mix gas or should I use the oil tank and hope she does what she is made to do? I do plan on hanging a kicker on it (like to have a backup on anything too big to row) and that will be premix. Thoughts?

1988 should be VRO 2 (second gen) and they are quite reliable. They also have multiple alarms to notify you of malfunctions. low oil etc.

After long lay-up it is recommended to mix your first tank of fuel at 50:1 mix.--------You mark your oil tank and see how much oil has been used from the oil tank.------Once you determine that the system is working you can go to straight gas.-------Perhaps learn how to check your alarm systems as well.

Thanks folks. Makes sense to run premix and mark the oil tank. I was told it has been in garage for at least 4 years.

They have multiple alarms, that is if your alarm is working I'd recommend bypassing the vro, so you can have trouble free boating.
