Just got a 88' 90hp yamaha with oil injection, Boat has onboard gas tank that was used with gas oil mix for an older 115hp mercury. What should I do with gas tank? I can syphon out as much as possible, is it ok to fill it up with fresh gas and go? would the left over oil in tank harm the new motor?<br />Thanks

Re: 88' 90hp yamaha and gas-oil question

If you fill it up with fresh gas you will probably be OK. The extra oil won't hurt the engine in the short run. The only concern would be if the gas/oil was really old and the oil had gelled in the bottom of the tank, but that would be a problem with any outboard. If the boat tank hasn't been used in a long time you might try disconnecting the engine connector and pumping a quart or so with the fuel bulb into a clear container to have a look. If it comes out of the tank OK you are probably good to go. If it has an old fuel filter, replace it.
