I have a '88 and '89 50 hp engine, and neither will give me a spark. The '88 ran, but I had to pull the head of it to file down the piston that got hot and pitted when the guy I bought it from had it. It ran for 5 seconds then quit. Since then I have gotten no spark out of either cylinder. I found a "running" 1989 50 hp for a couple of hundred dollars and decided to get that for now until I could fix the other. After mounting it and turning it over there was no spark either. Where is the best place to start? The CDI or the stator? Where is the best place to get a DVA adapter for my digital mulitmeter? Thanks

Some thing i ran into last summer on my 50 horse. Was the magneto magnet had separated from the fly wheel. It drove me nuts trying to find it. I also find your self a manual as it will give you correct trouble shooting procedures. Its worth the 30 bucks. On the DVA tester if you find one cheep let me know as there not cheep.

Check your ignition switch.
