I am currently looking at an 88 bayliner Bass Edition that is for sale. They are asking 2000 for the boat, and claim that it runs great. I am really contemplating taking the 4.5 hour drive to go look at this boat.

What are the good and bad things that I should look for?

I am looking to buy a second boat due to the fact that my tower of power is shot and will take about the same amount to fix it, so why not get a bigger boat too...

Re: 88 Bayliner Bass Edition

Same as with any boat of that vintage: Check for rot in all wood parts (cockpit sole, stringers, and transom). Check the motor for compression if the owner will let you. At least run it on muffs. Check the operation of all electrical devices. Take a look under the console to what the wiring looks like. Check the trailer tires (also look for the date stamp on them), lights, and wheel bearings (do the wheels rotate smoothly without noise, wobble, or in-and-out play?).
