Hello,

I am looking at buying a 1988 Bayliner Trophy, not sure of the exact model yet. It has a 200hp Mercury outboard. The boat looks to be in good shape.
Any advice on this model?

well, I bought the boat and I am very happy with it. It handles great, and has lots of room to hold my family comfortably!

I am glad to hear that the boat turned out to be everything that you had hoped. What it comes down to it, that is all we want right?

I had a '96 Trophy. 20' with a walk around cuddy cabin. 150 Merc. This boat was fantastic and never gave me a hint of trouble.

Keep up with the maintenance. Find a good mechanic. Worth every penny.

I think it originally came with a 150 hp Force motor, and was replaced in 94 with 200 hp Merc. So far, so good!:)

Are you looking at the center console or the walk around cuddy?

Both are great, depending what you're looking to do.

Have a qualified mechanic give it the once over prior to paying for it. If the boat is good, the owner won't mind at all. Have the annual maintenance done FAITHFULLY. Some people don't think impellers fail after a year, but I find it's cheap insurance. Every spring, without fail, I get new plugs, lower unit lube change, impeller, prop shaft seal, fuel filter, and compression check. It may be coincidence, but I have NEVER had a mechanical failure of any boat I've owned.
