Ok, guys I have had luck over the years on here with motor repairs so now I need help with wiring a trolling motor. I bought a 88 Bumble Bee, it had motorguide trolling motor with a 12/off/24 switch on the foot peddle and it has a charge - 12/24 switch on the bow (not wired up after taking the panel off). I had to remove the trolling motor batteries and didn't pay attention to the cable configuration (my fault) I replace the batteries and changed the trolling motor with one from my previous boat that I bought a year ago. Now I'm not sure how to hook the batteries up, there are two sets of cables coming from the bow, they are all wired into the plug at the bow. So do I switch one negative and one positive or connect one set to one battery and the other to the other battery? I heard the switch that isn't wired would do the series connection for you, so should I wire the switch back up and connect the batteries up normal? Thanks for any help!

Well I went in search on here after posting and I see, I need to check my plug to see if it's newer and has the 12/24 jumpered plug.

There is more we need to know. Is the new motor also a combination 12 OR 24 volt motor, 24 volt only, or 12 volt only. If it is 24 volt only there will be no 12/24 switch used. The series connection is made in the plug. If the new motor is 12 volt then you need to PARALLEL the two batteries, or use just one. Two batteries in parallel = 12 volts but double the run time.

The new motor is 12/24, wireless foot control.
