Seen 'em broke, seen the coil body cracked, then sparks jump to ground, sometimes you can hear the 'zap zap' when it's idling, with the cowling off.
Let's face it, you've got a 22 yr-old motor and all the elex parts get nice and toasty under the hood, plus vibration, something's gonna give eventually. What's amazing is these things run as long as they do!
And there's plenty of 30-40+ yr-old motors out there, in daily service. Quite a feat of engineering, unfortunately there are plenty of new ones that aren't gonna make it that far (how could they make any money if their stuff lasted forever!!!).
You should be able to scare up an ign coil here at the iboats store, if you have no success try

www.crowleymarine.com to name a few. The latter 2 have parts diagrams to go with, handy for looking up the OEM part numbers.
