88 Evinrude 9hp question

A friend of mine was trying to find out if he could install a 15hp carb on his 9hp for a little more performance. I was actually wondering the same thing with my 75 115hp Evinrude. Can we swap out our carbs for a little more performance and also keep the same reliability.

it much more than just changing carbs. that is an unproven myth.

The increase from 9.9hp to 15hp simply by replacing the 9.9hp carburetor with a 15hp one held true on the first two year production models (1974 & 1975 I believe). The later model differences included many more changes (carb, intake items, exhaust tuning etc) which made the attempt to increase the horsepower cost prohibitive.
