I'm new to outboard motors (only about a year having any at all), and this year I've upgraded my boat and bought a 1988 50hp Force with the controls. The controls and motor are not yet installed on the boat, i would like to first verify that everything runs properly.
I've taken the cowl off and checked the top cylinder's pressure but can't get access to the lower cylinder with my 'standard' pressure gauge. Any hints on what part no / tool I may need to get access to that tight area? The top cylinder wasn't super high (think it was about 100), but I want to make sure both are close to each other at the very least. To do this test, we just jumped the motor to kick it over. I don't like doing that too often as it's not the way 'it's suppose to work'.
So, in order to get this hooked up and working 'properly', I'd like to hook up the controls to the motor while it's on a stand. These are the controls that were with the motor while it was on a boat and working (from the guy I bought it from). It looks like a whole lot of wires and I want to make sure I hook everything up correctly (wires and throttle etc). Does anyone have a diagram scanned that would show me which wires to hook to where (I'm hoping most of the color and patterns match up 1 to 1, but if I recall when I looked quickly, either there were one or two that didn't quite match or there were more plugs than wires or something like that). I think I saw a site I could join to get an online manual but I've lost that link and don't remember how I got there (I clear history every time I close browser, so that didn't help either).
Also, the motor does not have tilt/trim included. Does anyone know where I might get an appropriate tilt/trim for this motor? I've looked up many sites and have seen many newer ones, but don't know if I just have to match the size of the motor (or if something for bigger motors will work or not) or if I have to figure out how many wires it must have (seen two and three wire units if I recall correctly) or if I have to match year, size, and wires.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Todd.
I have found this thread though:
I did find this discussion though: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread....tic+50hp+Force
Does anyone have pictures of their wiring for controls / throttle etc? Know of anything on youtube that might show engine compartment?
