I am looking at 2 88hp spl johnson motors both are identical. one is a short shaft with tilt trim and one is non tilt long shaft. I have a pontoon and need the long shaft. The long shaft motor is blown and the short runs and drives great. My quest that I am hoping to get answered is..... having two identical units like this, can I just swap the exhaust tunnel, drive shaft, shift linkage and water tube to achieve a good running long shaft? or is there more to it?

You would be better off swapping the powerheads and using the T&T unit from the short shaft on the long shaft midsection.
Much less work that way.

That is if you like the long shaft paint, corrosion level, etc.
