I took my 89 procraft on the water yesterday. I had no problem untille I was heading back. I slowed down to enter a no wake zone and tried to lower the trim to ease the bounce when I noticed it would not go down. It trimed up with no problem, it just would not go down. I tried the trim switch on my trodle arm, and the trim switch by my troling moter but nither would put it down. I had to lossen the screw to get it down and it still did not go down all the way, just a little. then when I tried to start my "88 Johnson GT" it clicked like if the starter silinoid was bad.
Can anyone help with a diagram and instructions for this problem?
Thanks!

Perhaps we have 2 problems -- may be related. Is the battery up?

Switch the two trim relays around and see what happens.

Let us know.

The two trim relays. Should be in a bow on the exhaust cover.

I traced the trim power cord to a junction box in the back center of the moter and found that the screw holding what seems to be the ground wire had came loose from the vibration. I tightend it down and tried the trim and it is now working.
thanks for your help! if you hadent had me look for that relay I wouldent have found it.
Thanks again!!

Check the fluid, make sure you have power to both sides of the switch(it may be bad) mine did the same thing and all it was was low fluid, why they just go up and not down i don't know but the fluid was the cause in my case, another time on a different boat that happened but it was the switch. Just a couple of things to look at. Hope you find it let us know.

Steps to check/top off, not change, the fluid.

1. Raise the engine all the way up.

2. Look for the plug about half way up on the trim motor/manifold assembly. This will be the assembly between the clamp brackets (transom mounts).

3. Remove the plug. If you get a slight drip of fluid, it's full. If not, go to #4.

4. Add fluid until it runs out the hole.

5. Cycle the engine up and down several times, recheck the level and refill, if necessary.

Use OMC tilt/trim fluid-or equivelant. You will not need much.
