I have acquired a boat with a 48hp Johnson motor. Model # J48ESLCCC, Serial # G7752651. I took it out twice at the end of last season using what I thought was a 50:1 fuel/oil ratio. However, while changing the lower unit oil this weekend, I noticed an original sticker on the motor, at the fuel connection that say's 100:1... What is the right ratio for this motor???

For safety's sake, most folks run these engines at 50:1.

OMC ran 100:1 ratios for a few years in the 80s and had no trouble with wear. It was changed back to 50:1 when they started getting early warranty issues with corrosion on motors that were stored in humid climes for months at a time. 100:1 didn't leave enough protective film. IMHO you won't hurt the motor at 100:1 or 50:1 but need to be aware of the corrosion problem.

Thanks to those who provided input. I think I will stick with the 50:1 as it seems this is the norm.
