HI guys and gals..
the re-build I did my 50 horse 1988 was a nice clean job, ended up with rough idle, found bad plug wire.. changed the charge coil which was suppose to deliver 150 volts, ended up getting 70 to 80 volts at idle and start speed.. so now I have a new charge coil, new plug wires, new plugs. still rough idle and some misfire.. can't help but think that the flywheel magnets are weak just from the 70 volt readings... has anyone experienced a bad flywheel? I put a screw driver to the magnets and it sticks well.. ordered a new trigger coil but think that was a waste of money.. is there any way to re-magnetize the magnets there?
looking forward to feedback.
thanks.

should add to this.. the engine was a junker when I got it, so I have no idea what it was like before.. and yes, I also changed the ignition module as well..

How did you set the stator/flywheel clearance, inohv8? If the gap is too big you will get weak output from the charge coil.

Did you do it with/by an OEM Manual?

Hi JB, the charge coil does have an adjustment (minor), it was set so close that it slightly took the green paint off of the laminate, any closer and the flywheel won't go back on..
