I have a '88 88 Johnson SPL, original owner. Last season/season before it developed rough idle and cut out trouble. Sometimes it will settle in like normal. Have done the following: Rebuilt the carbs, replaced the carbs, checked compression (115-120), check ignition and spark - good, forwarded the timing, adjusted the idle and linkage (which is probly out of wack now), verified the fuel filter is clean. Have talked to some dealer mechanics to no avail. Would like to avoid a shop visit $$$. Otherwise with a little throttle it's fine all the way up to topend.

Be sure you got the timing right or you won't have any idle at all, just a big, ugly paperweight.
