I have a 88 Mariner magnum 150 II that starts fine and idles. Then it has a nice bog until I get above 2400 rpm. If I feather the throttle it will gain rpm but if I mash it will hit 2100 and stay. I have checked compression and all are sitting at 115. I have cleaned the carbs and checked the vent lines(which were plugged).Replaced plugs.I ordered new carbs kits for it and found out the the previous owner had changed out the stock carbs to wmh 2952 carbs(mid 90's 150-175-200 carbs). They also out vilocity stacks and a bob's nose cone kit on the motor. The elevation I run in varies from 4000' to 5500'. Once I get it above 2500 it runs like a champ! I am also woundering if it might be the injection system (putting out to much oil, smokes heavly).Any suggestions or recomendations? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 88 Mariner 150 Magnum II Bog help

First thing i would suggest is getting rid of the oil injection system all together and mixing your fuel yourself.

Then start testing for proper spark, fuel and air delivery by trouble shooting all the fuel, intake, and ignition systems and components.

Start from the source of spark, the stator, and end at the exit, the spark plug.

If you have not already got a manual for your engine, do it now and you will have the right tool for the job.
