88 Mariner 40hp, do the plug wires come out of the coil?

I have a 88 mariner 40hp that I am on a continual fight to get running like it should. I got it with plugged up carbs, leaking fuel pump, leaking float valve, bad plugs, all sorts of issues.

Anyhow I tugged on the plug wire pretty good and it does not seem like they are removable from the coil? This motor has the single coil with two plugs wires. Should they come out/unplug from the coil?
