Re: 88 omc cobra questions
As for the manual, yeah check ebay, get the OMC service manual and be prepared to pay $100 or more.
As far as what to check before putting it on the water: I'm assuming your engine is running and you've done a tune-up...plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, fuel/water seperator, oil/filter, etc.
As far as the outdrive is concerned, change the gear oil, fill from middle hole(very important and please ask if you haven't ever changed gear oil on an OMC) Take note of gear oil condition. ie water in oil. Start her up, run her on muffs for a while and check gear oil again. Make sure no water is in it(turns milky) and none is leaking out.
Oh, and you need to change the impeller. Real easy to do and again ask and will give step by step. This is very important or you will overheat. I wouldn't start it without a new impeller if its been sittin up for a couple years. Make sure to note water coming out near propeller when running.
From one OMC owner to another, cross your fingers and drink lots of beer!
