88 omc sterndrive grinding and clunking noise

grinding going into forward and clunking noise every 10 seconds or so. sterndrive apart now what? gears? gimble bearing? shiftcable? thanks.

clutch dog slipping in and out of gear, check the clutch dog if worn, if not worn your shifter cable needs adjustment or recalled arm
