88 pro v 150 won't rev over 2000 rpm ????

I desperately need help. I have a 1988 pro v 150 and since the begining of the season I have had problems. It will not rev over 2000 rpm and will not get up on plane at all. I have since rebuilt the carbs b/c I found out there was a small leak. It did help a little. I have a good flow of gas coming through the line into the carbs. I have good compression on all six cylinders, and a good spark as well. I have found out while looking at some of the threads that the CDI can go into a protective mode for different reasons. I am going crazy not using the boat as much .

Please any help would be greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!
