The black, yellow striped wire to the power pack is the kill wire. While connected to the power pack, jump this wire to ground. The engine should shut off. If not, the fault is in the pack. If it does shut off, check key switch, and wiring.

(Ignition Kill Circuit)
(J. Reeves)

A Black wire (ground) should lead from the powerhead to the powerpack. There will also be a Black/Yellow wire leading from the powerpack to a raised "M" terminal of the ignition switch. To complete the circuit, there will be a Black wire from the other "M" terminal of the ignition switch to ground.

When the key is in the OFF position = The two "M" terminals are connected,. effectively shorting/killing the ignition.

When the key in ON position = The two "M" terminals are not connected and the ignition is engaged.

Re: 88 SPL motor wont shut off

thanks.

I located the black/yellow wire coming from the powerpack.
Grounded it and voila, it killed the motor.

The more difficult part is the powerhead connector because the black wire had corroded and broke off cleanly on me.

at this point, i'm figuring to solder a wire onto the other side of the powerhead connector and run that to the black/yellow wire of the powerpack.

thanks again!
