88 spl putting out 16 volts at 2000 rpm. 2 high? im afraid of frying accesories

My volt meter reads up to 16 v while running but only sometimes.
The gauge works fine with testing. I feel this is a rectifier problem. Sound right?

An 88 did not come with a regulated charge system. It only has a rectifier, not a regulator.
16V is normal with these systems, but you could fit a 585195 regulator from a 90hp if it bothers you.

Or else an OEM 173640 regulator.
