My buddies '88 Suzuki 30hp has broken rings and a damaged piston in the top cylinder. The impeller went and overheated the motor which caused the issue (I think). Bottom cylinder is good, 120psi compresssion. The overheat also melted the mount on the power pack. My question; is it worth the repair?

These are great motors. If you don't have the labor costs to deal with and you know what you are doing then it may be worth rebuilding. Good idea to check the bore diameter to see if there is meat enough for a rebore. Suzuki parts are not cheap but then again no boat motor parts are. The failure of the cylinder should be investigated. Also possibly carb blockage or the oiling system to that cylinder has a blockage.
There is a procedure in the manual to test the oiling system.

Thanks James, I'll do some pricing research and dig a little deeper into the motor before taking it apart. Glad to hear you think it's a good motor. I know nothing about Suzuki and will need the service manual for sure.
