i have twin 88 yamaha 200's. on both engines the oil pumps are not shutting off and the tanks on the engines are over flowing. the float switches appear to by ok. (clean and moving freely). any suggestions on how i can test the float switches or something else to look for. it seems weird that both switches would go bad at the same time.

That seems odd that both would go at once. Did you do something to the engine oil tanks just before the problem started (like pull the sensor out)? I had that problem with an 88 225 Yam, there is a rubber washer that goes on the bottom of the sensor slide. If it becomes dislodged, it can jam up the slide, causing erroneous readings and allowing the pump to run and overfill the tank. I would check them first. If you want, you can buy a manual and check the sensors. I think you'll need an ohm meter to measure the resistance at different points.

I had the problem on a pair of 87 200 Yam's. Turned out to be the oil control modules. Do the test on the oil level sensor and if it tests ok, you probably need new oil control modules. They are not cheap either...
