88 Yamaha multi function guage 'clicking sounds'

This might be a dumb question: I just took delivery of an 23' 88 Grady White with twin 150 Yamaha 2 strokes. With the ignition turned on, with or without engines running, there is a clicking sound every 5 sec or so coming from the engine instruments. It almost sounds like some type of small electric motor is 'stuck'. I can't tell which guage the sound is coming from. I have original Yamaha multifunction guages (tach/trim/oil alarms) as well as volt meters, and hour meters. Could it be the hour meter(s) (they are the mechanical type). The hour meters do seem to advance properly when running. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about it, but something ran by battery dead overnight, so something's up.
Anyone ever seen this? Is it a normal sound? THANKS!

most hour meters click. the new three wire ones from yammi dont. they only work if a tach signal is present.
sounds like you need to check all your circuits. and keep the battery switch off when your not onboard. if your that concerned just unplug the hour meter and see if the click goes away.
good luck and keep posting

Thanks! I thought the sound was the hourmeters. The batt switch was off when it went dead, so I'm looking for a loose wire on the forward bilge pump. everything else looks fine
thanks
