Re: 88'Evinrude 225hp....Vro done...now flywheel damage?
Hi Gilligan....

The compression seems a little low to me. Could be all it needs is a good decarb.

Mistreatment of the flywheel, ie...dropping it, beating on it, usually is the cause of a cracked magnet. I would not run the engine like this. The magnet as a hole, has two poles. North and South. This sets up the field that induces voltages in the coils under the flywheel. When the magnet cracks, now esentially you have two magnets with north and south poles. When the magnet goes by a coil, the polarity of the field is changed sorta in mid travel. This reverses the current induced in the coil. You end up with a hot coil. The flywheel costs about $845 list. (sorry, didn't want to make ya throw up) Search around for a second hand wheel. Ebay may be a place to look.
I would also be interested why you took the engine into the shop in the first place also. Did you just purchase the engine?
