the lower unit on my 1994 SPL88 had a broken skeg at the bottom of it, and because of that, when i ran aground, i lost some gear teeth...as evidenced by chunks attached to the lower magnet. It still runs ok and makes no noise but I cannot enjoy myself on the water knowing its potential cannon balling.
i found an older, but much better shape lower unit casing and was going to simply swap in.
As you can see from the picture, the top of the shift linkage is slightly different.
'A' is my original, a 1994 88SPL
'B' is the replacement: am told was off an 1986 88SPL
Is it a large task to change the shift linkage?
It appears that the offset is close, but not quite.
As an alternative, i'm thinking..."I have acetylene"..i'll shape it...
With both lower units in neutral, the measured height distance is near identical (1/8" diff)
What am i getting into to swap the linkage.
thanks all
